The aim of the scheme is to 'promote and protect the physical, emotional and social health and well stuff of children and young people in Wales'. It is recognised by the World Health Organisation (WHO) as playing a key role in promoting the health of children and young people.   Llantwit Major School has been awarded the National QualityRibbon(NQA).     The Healthy Schools Scheme expects schools to write 7 key health topics:   ü Food & Fitness ü Mental & Emotional Health & Wellbeing ü Personal Development & Relationships ü Substance Use & Misuse ü Environment ü Safety ü Hygiene   with a whole school tideway in the pursuit school aspects to write the 7 key health topics:   ü Leadership & Communication ü Curriculum ü Ethos & Environment ü Family & Community Involvement    We are the only secondary school in the Vale of Glamorgan to have achieved the prestigious Healthy Schools National Quality Award. The School received the ribbon in 2012 and was reaccredited in 2014 and then in 2016.       WNHSS National QualityRibbon  The National QualityRibbonis awarded to schools that have achieved the highest standards in all seven Healthy Schools aspects of health and well-being.   To unzip this ribbon schools will have to have participated in the scheme for a minimum of nine years, and to have covered and sustained all the seven health topic areas set out in the WG “Indicators for the WNHSS National Quality Award”.      We are extremely proud to be recognised as a Healthy School.      SNAG- School Nutrition Action Group   Llantwit Major School places Healthy Eating upper up in their list of priorities and as such we have a SNAG who meet every other Tuesday in Mrs Newbrook’s room. Here they discuss the current menu and how it can be made healthier, they moreover squint at implementing new dish choices into the school canteen. Recently, they were very lucky to visit the new vial as well as discuss the current menu with the Vale Catering Manager Carole Tyley.
